Bears Hibernate… Do You?

Asking for a sign from nature this morning, (No, I didn’t see a bear!) I noticed birds flying north. Smiling here… yes from “birds flying north” my inner voice said: migrate, hibernate, seasons of turning within and rest. Okay, maybe I haven’t quite got this intuition thing down yet! Regardless, the message I heard was pretty clear. So much of non-human life knows about seasons, expansion and contraction, expression and lying low, outward beauty and inward renewal. I live in Wisconsin and every year leaves and grass and flowers and sunshine and warmth are replaced with barren and cold and snow and a shifting out of the wildlife that we see – and do not see.

Today this got me thinking about my own life. Continue reading “Bears Hibernate… Do You?”

Timing

Creating the life we dream of is filled with visioning, forward movement, action. Sometimes, however, there is much value in pause, being with what is here now, in NOT reaching for what’s next. In the pauses, it can also be helpful to notice what doesn’t fit any longer and is ready to be released. Consider this short description of the trapeze artist taken from “The Yamas and Niyamas” by Deborah Adele:

Hanging in Mid-Air

Much like the moment when the breath is completely exhaled, the trapeze artist has a moment when they are suspended in mid-air. My understanding is that they have to let go of one bar and wait in mid-air for the next swinging bar to reach them. If they hold on to the current bar, or reach for the next bar, their timing will be off and they will fall. Instead, they must let go fully to be ready for the bar swinging towards them, trusting the timing of the swing and not their own effort to reach.

What bar have you held onto too long?
What bar are you reaching for prematurely?
Where are you gloriously suspended in mid-air?

You Don’t Know Me

You don’t know me, I have changed –
inside, my thoughts, all rearranged.
Confused awhile yet now I place
less stock in what the mind creates.

I see with eyes which look beyond
the rules defining human bonds.
The Soul which lives as me, as you,
is not confined to trite “I do”

for It loves all as Soul connection
seeks to further Life’s intention.
Simply growth, awareness, joy,
not perfection, wealth or ploy.

You don’t know me, here as Soul,
present to the sacred whole.
Yet I see you as you are –
ever changing, reaching far.

Human paths we travel on,
side by side from dusk till dawn.
Souls they journey, free to fly –
unique and precious, you and I.

Where We Are Whole

Oh that you would stop to see
the glory that is you
for we do choose who we will be
each day our whole lives thru.

And if our choices we deflect
for others’ lofty goals
in essence we have chosen
to betray our sacred souls.

Yet if, instead, we choose the way
of deep and inner passion
withholding not our energy
and from ourselves do fashion

a life of deepest knowing
as we flow throughout our days
then by the river of our making
will the neighbors stop and graze.

Strengthened by the life that teems
from all that we project,
each blessed man and woman
will have learned to self-protect…

and listen to the calling whispered
deep within our souls
and see with utmost clarity
a purpose and a goal.

And we will choose to feed the hunger
deep within our soul.
And we will feed each other
from this place where we are whole.

Vision

When we look within, instead of without,
and we focus on Truth instead of doubt,
when our vision is free from fear and strife
and we live each new day with the whole in sight…

When we learn there is only One Source of the Light:
One Presence, One Power, One day and One night,
and we choose to unite in all that we are
with the wisdom we’ve seen looking on from afar…

‘Tis then that we travel on Spirit’s strong wings
together forever. This union it brings
a clarity only the heart can discern
and we know that this Now has lessons we’ll learn.

We open ourselves and we trust as we take
each next step; we’re guided through each passing day.
And as we pause to listen, we know
the Presence of Spirit. We’re One with the whole.
